Summer 2010

British Seafood Festival

In conjuction with Ramus Seafoods, we are taking part in the Great British Seafood Festival, running from 29th May - 11th July. The aim of the festival is to celebrate the best of British seafood and Ramus have selected six fish on the basis of seasonality, sustainability, quality & Britishness; Gigha Halibut Fillet, Atkinsons's Traditional Natural Smoked Haddock, West Coast Queen Scallops, Rainbow Trout, Fresh Cod Loins, Baxter's Potted Shrimps.

Alistair Sawday's Special Places: Pubs & Inns of England & Wales

Our first time entry into the above guide has reaped rewards in the shape of a 'Community Pub Award'. We are one of only 12 pubs out of 900 that have been hi-lighted for special mention.

Destination Harrogate Tourism & Hospitality Awards 2010

We are delighted to annouce that we have been shortlisted for 'Best Achievement of the Year' in the Destination Harrogate Tourism & Hospitality Awards 2010 for our village shop, which we opened last year, despite difficult market conditions. The Awards Dinner will be held on Monday 7th June when we find out who the winner will be.

PubChef Food Excellence Awards 2010

Sherrie Gadd, our second chef, reached the finals of the PubChef Food Excellence Awards 2010 in the Game Category. You may remember we were winners last year in the Seafood Category. The Awards Dinner was held in March in London and although we didn't win the overall award, it was a fantastic experience for Sherrie, who is only 23, and it has fired her imagination for next year. Well done!

Independent Achievers Academy 2009

The Shoulder Shop won its first award in November 2009 at The Independent Achievers Academy Awards, which celebrates the best in the independent retail sector. Our shop won the category for best shop presentation and David was presented with his trophy by Bill Turnbull, from BBC Breakfast.
